Florida Attorney General says fraudsters are using AI to deceive victims in order to steal personal information or money

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is warning about a new wave of imposter scams using artificial intelligence (AI) to clone voices, making these scams more convincing than ever. The scammers use advanced AI voice technology to mimic the voices of trusted individuals, tricking victims into believing they are speaking with someone they know.

In her video message, Moody advises not to trust solely what is heard over the phone or seen on caller ID. She recommends asking the caller personal questions that only the real person would know, calling the loved one back on their personal phone line for verification, and contacting local law enforcement if there’s any suspicion of danger.

Moody has launched a new Summer Scams Series, "Tech Traps," to highlight how technology can be used in fraud. The series aims to educate Floridians about these evolving threats. She stresses the importance of vigilance, especially in urgent situations, and provides guidance on how to protect oneself from AI-enhanced scams.
